Diane Hyland

Diane Hyland, Professor of Psychology, is the Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff in the College of Arts and Sciences. A member of the faculty for nearly 30 years, Diane has taught courses on child development, adult development and aging, psychology of gender, and social research. Over the course of her career at Lehigh, Diane has served as Chair of the Psychology Department, Director of the Center for Social Research, and Interim Director of Women’s Studies. Outside the classroom, Diane has been an energetic member of the university community, serving as a mentor to junior faculty and taking leadership roles on numerous committees. She is a Lehigh ADVANCE co-principal investigator seeking answers to social science research questions related to the gendering of preferences for and career consequences of engaging in collaborative and interdisciplinary research in STEM fields.

Jackie Krasas

Jackie Krasas is currently Director of Women’s Studies and Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology. As Director of Women’s Studies she has worked to expand the program from an undergraduate minor in 2005 to one that now includes both an undergraduate major and an interdisciplinary graduate certificate. Her scholarship focuses on gender, race and employment inequality, masculinities, work and family, and non-standard work. Prior to coming to Lehigh University, she was Associate Professor of Labor Studies and Industrial Relations at Penn State University and directed the Industrial Relations and Human Resources graduate program. Prof. Krasas received her PhD in sociology with a specialty in gender studies from the University of Southern California. She is a Co-PI for the ADVANCE Grant and also a 1987 graduate of Lehigh University.

Wendy Abrantes

Wendy Abrantes received her MA in Sociology as a Community Fellows Research Assistant from Lehigh University in 2007. After graduation, she continued work with the department of Sociology and Anthropology in the Social Science Data Center as a program evaluator for the Creative Campus Grant and South Mountain Campus. She has also served as evaluator for community organizations such as North Penn Legal Services and The Weller Health Center. Ms. Abrantes was a research assistant in Lehigh University’s Center for Social Research and an adjunct instructor of Sociology and Anthropology for Northampton Community College. She is currently a research scientist on the Lehigh ADVANCE grant.

M. Jean Russo

Dr. M. Jean Russo, Senior Research Scientist/Scholar at the Center for Social Research, serves as the Internal Evaluator for ADVANCE. She will examine the impact of program activities on recruitment, retention, and advancement of women STEM faculty members. Dr. Russo has experience with all aspects of evaluation, including evaluation design, questionnaire development and testing, data collection and management, data analysis, and preparation of evaluation reports. Dr. Russo has conducted numerous evaluations funded by the National Science Foundation and other federal and private agencies. From 2007 to 2010, she served as Project Director for The Family Study, a longitudinal study spanning 30+ years, which recently completed a fourth wave of data collection. She was also editor and contributing author for a two-volume series that included selected works of Donald T. Campbell, a preeminent social science scholar.
