The US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) published a new consensus report Advancing Antiracism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in STEMM Organizations: Beyond Broadening Participation
Lehigh University is pleased to invite you to a special public seminar by NASEM Study Director, Layne Scherer.
Through this presentation and Q&A you will take part in a critical conversation about how the report connects to Lehigh University’s campus. Learn how the backdrop of systemic racism in the United States has harmed and continues to harm people from minoritized groups, which is critical for understanding the unequal representation in STEMM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics & Medicine). Then, learn the recommendations and actions that leaders and gatekeepers in STEMM organizations can take to foster a culture and climate of antiracism, diversity, equity, and inclusion that is genuinely accessible and supportive to all. This session is suitable for all faculty and interested postdoctoral scholars, staff, and graduate and undergraduate students. It is especially useful for those with formal and aspirational leadership positions who seek to be transformative change agents and hold our campus accountable to our collective goals.
RSVP with this link by May 2, 2023 for lunch. You can describe any dietary or other accommodations required to attend this important event..

Additional engagement about this report and with Ms. Scherer is possible during May 10 and May 11. Then, as work continues to be catalyzed, we will have the options to engage with them and members of the study committee, through the summer and Fall 2023. Please reach out to advance@lehigh.edu if you’d like to be part of this ongoing work.
