The ADVANCE Center, Deputy Provost for Graduate Education, and Office of Research invite faculty and postdocs who are mentors to apply for a five-session mentor development workshop series from September 6-October 4, 2024 in Williams 341.
The deadline is August 23, 2024.
Using the curriculum created by CIMER: the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research, participants will actively engage in discussions on topics including the following, which have been identified by research mentors:
Aligning Expectations
Maintaining Effective Communication
Addressing Diversity & Ethics
Assessing Understanding & Fostering Independence
Promoting Professional Development
In addition, attendees will spend a portion of each session developing and refining their own mentoring action plans, applicable to federal grants which require mentoring plans for trainees.
Each in-person session will be facilitated by Dr. Hutnik, Dr. Levine, and Ms. Chao, and will foster networking and skill building with a light breakfast.
The general schedule of each session and the specific dates are outlined below.
8:30-9:00 Light breakfast and networking
9:00-11:00 CIMER Interactive Workshop Content
11:00-11:30 Mentor Action Plan Development
Participants (at least 12) must commit to all sessions; space is limited to 25 people. The Fall 2024 application form will ask for your name, basic contact information, about any acommodations necessary for your full participation, and a brief paragraph about what you hope to gain from attending this series.
Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate and a celebration at the final session,
