In 2023-2024, the ADVANCE Center drafted new strategic plans to better situate the Center with the faculty development and equity goals of the Deputy Provost for Faculty Affairs. These included starting to propose new titles and organization such that the focus on women in STEM can persist while addressing the increasing capacity building function of the center to support Lehigh faculty across campus. Below, read a high level snapshot.
Address ADVANCE Center name, scope and resources for optimizing impact
- Propose name change reflecting expanded and comprehensive scope and desired impacts of Faculty Inclusive Excellence and Succes
- Prepare and request expanded budget for administrative support and programming reflective of the scale and scope of the Center.
- Launch a call for to appoint a second faculty co-director (appointment is pending)
Advancing Future Faculty Diversity Postdoctoral Program
- Onboard and deliver activities for Cohort 1 (5 scholars, 1 will join summer 2024 with Cohort 2)
- Launch internal and external calls for Cohort 2, working in collaboration with the host units
- Establish pathway to professoriate procedures
- Successful appointment of AFFDP Dr. Noh to Assistant Professor in Religion Studies.
Faculty Recruitment (Outreach, Hiring, Onboarding)
- Support evidence based best practices for inclusive and excellent faculty recruitment.
- Consult on internal process and workflow expectations, including data tracking
- Pilot workshop on rubrics, with a special emphasis on assessing statements on contributions to DEI
- Faculty Recruitment Ambassador Program
Faculty Retention (Culture, Climate, Advancement-Evaluation, Leadership Capacity Building)
- Support internal capacity for equity minded faculty evaluation through consulting on internal guidances and providing training
- New Faculty Mentoring via INC Program
- Enhance Faculty Mentoring Skills via CIMER (8 faculty)
- Supported Provost Fellows working with Department chairs on mentoring skill development
- Co-sponsored University membership to NCFDD and administered application and selection of 22 faculty to the Faculty Success Program of NCFDD
- Lead efforts to create a draft Faculty Workload Equity Policy and Implementation Framework
- Distinguished guest, Professor Paul Walton visit Gender Equity in Chemistry/STEM
- Speak Up to Bias; programming supports inclusive climate partnership across LVAIC
- Department and Department Chair Knowledge and Capacity consultation and support
- Faculty Director led project Faculty & Staff Educational Debt Survey
- Consult with Faculty Senate: SCUI efforts related to faculty service; IC efforts related to Statements on Contributions to DEI
- LU-WISE
- Consultations with individuals facing equity and climate challenges and associated follow-ups with university leaders, as needed
Faculty Equity Research & Dissemination Opportunities
- Continue External Reviewer Letter Research project
- Present at National Diversity Congress, Women in Leadership Higher Education, Cambridge, Ma, 2024 and at the EISCC Equity in STEM Community Convening
- Campus visits with ADVANCE team from West Chester University and Penn State
